MA at University of Barcelona. I currently work on abstract paintings, using varied expressions to communicate with the audience. The common elements in my paintings are: my Asian background and the experience of living in Western culture.
For Yuan-Wen Wang, painting is more like a record of inner life experience: in her recent paintings, some abstract expressionism features and elements of oriental ink painting can be observed: the black calligraphy-like brush strokes are shuttled in the picture. The color blocks and the strokes are intertwined to outline the artistic conception of the picture, which seems to record the individual's life experience and inner state of mind. In her work, there is no specific image higher than the hierarchy of other images, one image always implies another image, complement each other, strength and softness, emptiness and fullness, dynamic and static, combined to achieve the language of the artist. She focuses her creativity on the process, a natural creation, and does not reach the final work through drafts. Try to discover the meaning of the image itself through the process of creation, and to be aware of the deep personal innerness that is translated: this is a kind of spiritual clearance that occurs on the canvas, and then meditation with the audience through the works.
