George Chapman
Based LondonMy work deals with urban spaces, particularly urban decay and disused spaces in cities. I’m interested in how these spaces function for pedestrians and residents; how they tell a history of emotional, social, and economic development of the city. I use a restricted colour palette in my paintings to evoke the memory or nostalgia of these spaces, as well as their alienation. Simple geometric compositions strip away the unnecessary details. The viewer is left to contemplate the feeling of an empty space, its memory and history.
